Rotary Club of Rutland

General Guidelines for Donations from the Rotary Club of Rutland
1. Donations should relate to one of the Rotary International's seven main areas of focus
  • Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution
  • Disease Prevention and Treatment
  • Water and Sanitation
  • Maternal and Child Health
  • Basic Education and Literacy
  • Economic and Community Development
  • The Environment
2. Preference is given to causes that match our club level focus of Food Insecurity
3. Preference is given to donations that fund tangible, impactful projects. Donations should not simply fund the general administrative expenses, or overhead, of the recipient.
4. Donations should not be given where existing adequate funding is available, and/or a project is assured success without the Club’s financial support
5. A specific dollar ask, and how it will be used, is appreciated.
6. Although Rotary truly changes lives one at a time, donations made to organizations are perceived as likely to more efficiently leverage the gift versus one made to an individual. However, in extraordinary circumstances, a donation to an individual or a small group may be approved when the need is deemed compelling.
7. Preference is given to requests that have a positive impact in the Rutland Region vs. those outside the region. Our club participates in broader, worldwide projects through Rotary International's Global Grant Initiative.
8. Preference is given to organizations that will publicly recognize our club's donation. This helps spread the message of Rotary and allows us be more fruitful in our future fundraising efforts.
9. Preference is given to people or organizations with a connection to the Rotary Club. This can include those who have attended or presented at a club meeting, supported a club fundraiser, or partnered in a club service project.
Selection Process
1. Donations requests are collected during our fiscal year which runs from July 1st to June 30th
2. Our yearly giving budget is determined in January, following our main fundraising season
3. Donation requests are scored on a weighted decision matrix by members of the Board of Directors, using the preference criteria listed above
4. Discussion and voting will take place at our regularly scheduled board meetings. If more information is needed, a board member will reach out to you with any specific questions.
5. Our club treasurer will notify those whose requests have been approved, and will remit funds accordingly.
6. If you haven't heard back, you can contact the current club president to see the status of your request.
